HOMEWORK SCHEDULE
2017-2018
Dockets
Each student will need a docket to keep track of their unfinished classwork, weekly homework note and other important papers. These will need to be checked daily.
Weekly Homework note
I would like to see homework be a valuable tool for students, not a frustration for them or their parents. In fifth grade we try to establish good study and work habits that will benefit the students in their later school years. Homework is a great way to help teach them a little responsibility and accountability.
Each Week: Students will be responsible to bring home a Light Blue Homework Paper. This note will be kept in their docket. Parents will need to check off what their student completes and sign it. Students will be responsible for getting this done and returning it to school each Friday. Students will be graded on their weekly completion of Aleks and turning in their homework note signed. The other tasks listed important, but are not graded. The completion of Aleks is tasks for students to keep up on math concepts taught in class. Some Aleks may be completed at school. We understand that some weeks are busier then others, but every effort should be made to complete the tasks listed.
This blue paper will need to be signed by a parent and turned back in on Friday each week for full credit. A leadership grade will be earned each week that all tasks checked off as well as having it signed by a parent and returned. Tasks for each week will consist of the following:
Aleks - 8 topics learned each week
Personal reading (parent initials will indicate that adequate reading was done at home).
Study spelling and vocabulary for test on Friday (they can do this on-line on spelling city).
Practice math facts at home.
Parent logged into Aspire to check grades and/or missing work.
Each Month: At the beginning of each month a project will be assigned to be completed with the weekly homework. These projects are meant to be an extension on what your student should already be working on or learning in class. There will be 5 book reports throughout the year with the final one being a biography on a US President. Your student can choose what book to read each month (provided it is on their reading level) and they many choose how to report on their book. There are many choices to pick from so please use a different choice each time. Each monthly project, including book reports, will be worth 30 possible points.
Sept. = Book Talk
Oct. = 13 Colonies Research.....
Nov. = Book Talk
Dec. = Family holiday tradition
Jan. = Science Expo.....(TBD - will be timed with School Science Fair dates)
Feb. = Book Talk
March = Book Talk
